The world of design + art is changing around us; artists and architectural design professionals are working collaboratively to create projects to raise awareness about environmental and social issues, educate us about the importance of innovation and creativity, contribute to healing and hospitality environments, and develop community engagement and pride.
The exhibition, held at the historic Octagon, first home to the American Institute of Architects in the nation's capital, showcases the 2018 CODAaward winning design projects featuring commissioned art in interior, architectural, and public spaces. This exhibit will feature collaborative design + art projects from around the globe. CODAaward and CODAvideo Award winners will be shown through video, photographs, and text panels describing the work, goals and processes for creating these projects.
A panel of leaders from the design, architecture, and art worlds selects CODAaward winners. Winners are selected based on these criteria:
• Successful integration of commissioned artwork into the project
• The strength of the collaborative process among commissioners, artists, architectural designers, and fabricators
Categories of projects will include: Commercial, Educational, Healthcare, Hospitality, Institutional, Landscape, Liturgical, Public Spaces, Residential, and Transportation Additionally, CODAvideo Award winning projects will be screened.
