ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
o Build the vision for, and lead, Van Alen’s programs area, working with leadership, colleagues, and external parties to create year round high quality, diverse and exciting programming for the Institute.
o Envision and oversee Van Alen’s Spring and Fall program weeks, Van Alen Sessions video series, the Institute’s Video Wall curation, the Van Alen Book Club, and Crossroads Conversations.
o Conceive and curate distinctive new programmatic initiatives, in consultation with leadership, to drive forward the mission of the organization, in multiple US cities and internationally, including public programs, conferences, events, and activities related to Van Alen’s competitions, research, and other partnerships.
o Develop and implement strategies for expanding our programs in scale, reach, and audience. Capture and analyze data, and implement learnings to achieve greatest programmatic impact.
o Be a strategic partner and colleague, working with the Board, Committees and internal departments (such as management, development, communications and project teams) to identify and leverage opportunities for programmatic initiatives, accompanied by robust outreach, communications and attendance.
o Oversee event coordinator’s management of logistics for event participants as needed, including travel and accommodation, coordinating presentation materials, collecting participant bios, proper setup and teardown of event staging, volunteers, food and beverages, A/V, documentation, and publication materials.
o Strategize fundraising, with colleagues, and create, update, and monitor program budget; track grant deliverables and funder obligations; track program attendance and analytics.
o Other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
o Strong interest and/or background in architecture, urbanism, planning or related field.
o A content visionary, with professional experience in executing and managing innovative public program series and events for a cultural organization or institution.
o Collaborative and competent in executing delegated tasks, communicating progress, and proactively undertaking work.
o Flexible in multi-tasking, managing several projects at a time, and functioning under deadlines.
o Ability to work independently; Self-motivated and professional attitude toward all levels of assigned tasks.
o Comfortable with public speaking and representing the Institute.
o Travel may be required.
o Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years direct programming experience.
