The Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design at Tulane University has a long history of thoughtful collaboration with community‐based organizations resulting in exceptional design work in service to the New Orleans community and supporting the curricular goals of the School of Architecture. Following the Small Center’s strategic plan, the Director will oversee continued progress of community‐based programs and design projects, raise the local and national prominence of the Center’s work, and develop sustained financial support ensuring the program’s future. The Director will serve as the project and staff leader, strategy creator, creative problem‐solver, and relationship steward for the Center.
The Director will support a strong team‐based approach to design in collaboration with Small Center staff, School of Architecture faculty designers, architecture students, community‐based experts, and other consultants. The Director will identify and pursue local and national programmatic opportunities and strategic partnerships that benefit the community and the School of Architecture, and will be the public voice for the Center. The Director will supervise, support and mentor Small Center staff and student workers and will be responsible for delivering exceptional design assistance in collaboration with community based groups in New Orleans.
The Director is expected to continue to steward the close collaborations the Center has enjoyed with other Tulane departments, peer institutions, government agencies, community‐based organizations, local design practitioners, as well as local and national funders and donors. The Director will work in collaboration with the Center’s Advisory Council and the Center’s Faculty Advisory Group. The Director will also assist or support other programming activities for the School of Architecture where appropriate.
