Metropolis is a curriculum developed by John Martoni, a third-grade teacher and planner. It was designed as a standards-based, interdisciplinary unit of study for grades 3-6 (though it could be adapted for any grade level). Packed with illustrations and exercises, it is intended for use by elementary classroom teachers and other adults who seek to expose children to a variety of urban forms from around the world. The city elements presented in the lessons are edges, districts, public spaces, landmarks, and transportation.
The Global Architectural History Teaching Collaborative (GAHTC) is a worldwide group of architectural scholars with a mission to produce teaching materials of non-Western subjects for teachers of architectural survey courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. Six nonprofits in Pittsburgh offer K-12 architectural education programs of one stripe or another, so they joined together to form the Architecture Learning Network (ALN) to help high school students navigate their options. What began with a shared calendar listing grew into a system of learning pathways and digital badges thanks to a grant from the Sprout Fund.

The conference proceedings from ‘LearnXDesign2015’ are a comprehensive volume of topics across themed design pedagogy and research. The papers delivered at the 3rd International Conference for Design Education Researchers, co-organized by DRS, CUMULUS, and DESIGN-ED, are the focus of these volumes.
As part of the same-title session at the 2015 Design Matters Conference, Ed Orlowski, associate professor of architecture at Lawrence Technological University, shared a brief presentation about organizing college and graduate-level students to respond to real-world design challenges posed by local community groups. There is much in Orlowski's approach that echoes the work of traditional K-12 architectural organizations, but, of course, his Activist Architecture and Design Studio course at LTU deals with emerging designers in higher education.
