Manager of Exhibition Design

Wrightwood 659 is a unique art space in Lincoln Park, dedicated to the exhibition of socially engaged art and architecture. We are seeking a Manager of Exhibition Design to join our winning team. This position will report to the General Manager and will be primarily responsible for the planning, oversight of production, and implementation of a dynamic schedule of exhibitions to engage visitors and expand audience reach.

The Manager of Exhibition Design works closely with the Curatorial Associate and Wrightwood 659 staff to design a program of temporary and traveling exhibitions that meet the museum’s activist and architecturally focused mission.

The Manager of Exhibition Design works under the guidance of and reports to Wrightwood 659’s General Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

Work with the Curatorial Associate as well as outside curators to develop the design and layout of exhibitions.
Establish positive working relationships with key stakeholders, including external partners and vendors.
Work with diplomacy and discretion at all times.
Develop exhibition design concept with the Curatorial Associate as related to installation and exhibition planning through exhibition research as required.
Collaborate closely with Director of Building Operations and Registrar to meet display and installation requirements.
Design and procure all necessary exhibition caseworks and hardware.
Maintain a working model of exhibition layout which is used as a reference point for exhibition installation.
Correspond with Curators, Curatorial Associate, Registrar and Vendors for exhibition and installation needs including exhibition furniture, signage, graphics, and publications as needed.
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of exhibition timelines and deliverable schedules for sharing across all partners and stakeholders.
Participate in weekly meetings with all contributors to ensure deadlines are met.
Liaise with collaborating institutions, partners, and internal departments as necessary during all stages of the planning, production, and delivery of specific projects.
Work with Registrar and General Manager to develop and maintain exhibition budgets and expenses.
Maintain accurate exhibition drawings and models in synchronization with building drawings and models.
Knowledge of Rhino, Revit or Sketchup is preferred.
Maintain a deep understanding of building restraints such as vent placement which may affect the safety and placement of artworks.
Procure necessary equipment for digital and audio display in collaboration with Director of Operations.
Centralize all final exhibition plans, invoices, and other documentation on a digital platform to create an archive that is accessible to internal stakeholders.
Actively foster relationships with external partners.
Schedule:

Full-Time 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday)
Requirements:

Completed or in-progress degree in Fine Arts, Architecture, or related field.
5+ years of experience of hands-on art and exhibition design in a museum, gallery, or exhibition space.
Listing of exhibitions required.
Ability to develop respectful professional relationships and demonstrate high level support for colleagues.
Approach work with humility and open mindedness.
Ability to navigate smoothly between individual tasks and team efforts.
