Staff Editor


The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) seeks a Staff Editor to join our team. We are a not-for-profit whose mission is to lead architectural education and research on behalf of more than 7,000+ faculty members in the United States, Canada, and around the world.

The Opportunity

You work with architecture faculty, ACSA staff, and external partners to shepherd journals and books through peer review, production, and publication stages. Additionally, you will be working with an editorial board to curate and produce content for our growing Professional Practice Education Library (ProPEL). The challenge is to effectively manage and successfully execute publications for our small organization.

We are looking for a Managing Editor with an understanding of the value of scholarly inquiry and the evolving ways that knowledge and information are created and disseminated. Project management, organization, and persistence are key qualities for this role.

Here are some details:

As managing editor for two scholarly journals, you are the lead point of contact with the editorial boards, our commercial publishing partner, and external vendors. The peer-review, editorial, and production processes should run smoothly and according to deadlines. Each journal has its own website, so you’ll also work in both print and digital realms by posting articles and working in the WordPress platform.
As managing editor for ACSA’s scholarly publications, you’ll shepherd conference proceedings and other publications into existence. You’ll collaborate with our Programs Team, who produce ACSA’s conferences, competitions, and awards each year. Scholarly publishing is evolving, and you’ll need to be on top of indexing, DOIs, copyright permissions, as well. You should have strong InDesign skills in order to make changes to documents, create books from multiple files, and package content for printing.
Finally, you will also manage ACSA’s digital video library, ProPEL. You’ll work with volunteers and consultants on developing content, and be responsible for the user experience and communication with editorial board and other stakeholders.
For these duties we are looking for someone with experience publishing and/or media, is solid in project management, is solid in InDesign , and will contribute to our warm and collegial culture of working with our volunteer members. Experience in architecture or allied design fields is a plus.

This position is not intended to be a permanent telecommuting position. However, due to the pandemic the office is currently working remotely and will continue to do so while our office building in downtown DC is renovated until 2025.
