For more than 75 years, the Cranbrook Academy of Art has been one of the nation’s leading graduate schools of art, architecture, and design. It has been home to some of the world’s most renowned designers and artists. It’s arguable that the work emanating from Cranbrook in the twentieth century changed the way people live, and the way they understand art and design. The New York Times has said that “the effect of Cranbrook and its graduates and faculty on the physical environment of this country has been profound…Cranbrook, surely more than any other institution, has a right to think of itself as synonymous with contemporary American design.”
At the same time, the Cranbrook Art Museum invites viewers to discover relevant and transformative moments in modern and contemporary art, architecture, and design. Through our exhibitions, collections, programming, and publications, we bring together people from our region and around the world to provoke new ideas about art, creativity, and the built environment. We achieve this at Cranbrook Educational Community, a National Historic Landmark campus, where the pursuit of knowledge and innovation is paramount.
