Van Alen Institute

Van Alen Institute is a nonprofit organization that uses the tools of design competitions, research, and public programs to bring the power of design to bear on pressing challenges. The Institute collaborates with communities, scholars, policymakers, and professionals on local and global initiatives that create transformative design solutions. Van Alen’s work is inspired by two fundamental questions: How do cities impact our minds and bodies? And in turn, how do we impact the environment?  .
